Gill's story on the road to recovery

When I was at my lowest ebb, navigating language barriers, health systems and generally getting my head around the “stroke storm” aftermath

I found this group founded by a stroke survivor, determined to make a difference to other stroke survivors, their carers and their families

I know NOTHING about stroke a year ago and whilst I’m not saying I’m now an expert, I can hand on hand say, this group and its members truly did make such a difference in my knowledge, support and sound advice and at times just “holding my hand” esp. at times where difficulty occurred or … detours were needed

I’d love it if you would take a look at the incredible work Lee and his team have put into the new website and back up support outwith the Facebook group and … if you could find just £1 to support the work being done, I would be SO grateful

I was asked recently to become an Admin on this group to support and encourage other carers of stroke survivors and I feel privileged to not only have been asked, but to accept

Stroke awareness is vital in ensuring that we all know what “could” be or happen and by way of prevention and certainly early diagnosis

I was so fortunate to have great people here locally who  made such a difference in my being able to do what I could to support Mark but … when your head whirls at 2am  and you have a safe place to go to search for answers, I can’t tell you what difference it made

The most up to date statistics on stroke say …

* Stroke strikes every five minutes

* 100,000 people have strokes each year

* There are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK
